INDIANAPOLIS – Project Lead The Way (PLTW) today announced Dr. Romila “Romie” Mushtaq, M.D., ABIHM, as the keynote speaker for the 2018-19 PLTW Summit experiences. A leading expert in her field, Dr. Romie uses her unique expertise in neuroscience and mindfulness as she travels across the country speaking to audiences including Fortune 100 leadership, schools, and universities. At PLTW Summit, she’ll share with the PLTW Network how to use mindfulness as a tool to achieve peak performance, as well as how to use the power of mindful leadership to empower students and inspire creativity and innovation.
"Mindfulness-based techniques such as meditation are an essential tool to help individuals train the brain to remain calm in the face of chaos,” Dr. Romie said. “Physiological and anatomical changes occur in the brain with regular meditation practices that improve mood, memory, and overall brain performance.”
Dr. Romie is a traditionally trained neurologist with additional board certification in integrative medicine, and she helps individuals and organizations achieve optimized and holistic wellness. She is also a national media expert and contributor to national press outlets such as Fortune, Forbes, Success Magazine, Fox Business, The Huffington Post, and NPR. Dr. Romie shared her story and wisdom during her TEDx Talk “The Powerful Secret of Your Breath.”
“PLTW is proud to partner with our teachers and educational leaders to provide an inspiring, engaging, and empowering experience for our students,” said Vince Bertram, PLTW president and CEO. “That’s why we look forward to sharing Dr. Mushtaq’s expertise on how to use mindfulness as a tool to ignite creativity and innovation in their classrooms, schools, and districts.”
PLTW Summit is the premier gathering for the PLTW Network of individuals dedicated to preparing students with the in-demand knowledge and transportable skills they need to succeed in college and careers. New this year, PLTW has expanded from one experience to four, offering the PLTW Network expanded access to the PLTW Summit experience:
Hundreds of guests at each location – including educators, students, and business and industry leaders – will discover best practices for delivering and supporting hands-on learning experiences through interactive workshops and other exciting sessions.
In addition, for the first time at PLTW Summit, guests will have access to scaffolded professional development around topics relevant to any education professional to enhance professional growth beyond PLTW.
Attendees will also have opportunities to earn continuing education units (CEUs) awarded by PLTW, an International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) Accredited Provider. IACET CUEs are recognized by a wide range of organizations including several state departments of education and school districts.
