INDIANAPOLIS- Today, Project Lead The Way (PLTW) announced that its School Grant Program, made possible by the generosity of several corporate and philanthropic partners, funded PLTW’s leading science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) program for 205 middle and high schools this year. Grant dollars to these schools totaled $4,741,220.

Middle schools and high schools were eligible to apply for these funds through the PLTW School Grant Program—supported through the generous contributions of industry leaders, professional associations, private and family foundations, and other philanthropic organizations. Of the 205 schools selected to receive grants, the majority will be implementing PLTW programs for the first time. The funds awarded will support the purchase of program equipment, supplies, and software; and in-depth professional development for the instructors who will teach the PLTW curriculum. The other sub-set of schools awarded grant funds are those which already have a PLTW program(s). These schools will utilize the funds to sustain their PLTW program(s).

“We are very grateful for the support of our donors,” said PLTW President and CEO Dr. Vince Bertram. “The shortage of STEM-prepared students is a critical problem facing our country. PLTW’s mission is to prepare students for the increasingly high-tech, high-skill global economy. Through our world-class curriculum, professional development, and engaged network, we will reduce the gap. Our generous partners are furthering our mission by giving more students access to the PLTW curriculum.”

Schools were selected on the basis of several factors: the school’s implementation plans, support of the school administration and surrounding community, the identification of outstanding teachers, effective communication plans, well-developed student recruitment and enrollment contingency plans, strong facility and IT strategies, and a detailed budget with a sustainability plan.
