Advanced manufacturing professionals are in high demand with job openings in the US expected to exceed four million by 2033. To fill these roles, students need hands-on learning experiences that build the skills and confidence to pursue a career in advanced manufacturing. That's why Project Lead The Way (PLTW), powered by the Intel Foundation, is excited to announce the launch of two new programs designed to do just that: the Advanced Manufacturing Module for grades 8-9 and the Advanced Manufacturing Course for grades 9-12.
Advanced manufacturing is a specialized field that uses advanced production techniques that integrate technology and tools such as data science, automation, robotics, computer science, and semiconductors to create both new and existing products. In this career, professionals apply creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills to solve problems and drive innovation across physical, digital, and virtual environments.
Starting in fall 2025, all schools and organizations can spark students’ interest in advanced manufacturing with a fun, gamified learning experience on the Roblox platform, PLTW Advanced Manufacturing. Designed for use in both classrooms and out-of-school programs, this free module for 8-9th grade students will build foundational skills and knowledge in an exciting field. This free, ten-hour immersive learning experience explores critical topics such as smart manufacturing, AI in manufacturing, and industrial automation. With this game-based learning experience, we aim to expand career awareness and inspire the next generation to pursue roles in advanced manufacturing.
Launching for the 2026-2027 school year, the Advanced Manufacturing course is a comprehensive, year-long program for high school students. Developed in collaboration with the Intel Foundation, this course covers essential topics such as smart manufacturing, AI in manufacturing, and semiconductor manufacturing. Through real-world learning experiences and hands-on activities, students will gain in-depth knowledge and skills that prepare them for career awareness and pathways in advanced manufacturing. In addition to evidence-based curriculum, our robust teacher training and resources ensure educators are well-equipped to deliver high-quality instruction and support student success.
