Electronics Students Design Autonomous Vehicle

Steve Johnston has been a technology and engineering teacher for 28 years. He teaches at Logan High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The Project Lead The Way Digital Electronics class at Logan High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, partnered with Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, to design and build the Logan Ranger Autonomous Vehicle (AV).

The vehicle was designed and fabricated in the Logan HS Technology & Engineering Department. It can be controlled from a remote transmitter and navigate to a destination using a Live View system with a wireless link to a GoPro mounted on the vehicle. The AV has a GPS system with software that allows the vehicle to be controlled by a computer or Android-based phone.
