Janet Auer serves as advisor, global social investment at Chevron.

Now in its second year, the PLTW Engineering Design Competition gives PLTW high school students in grades 9-11 the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in their PLTW classrooms to solve real-world challenges and achieve recognition for their work.

This year’s challenge is focused on packaging and delivery, and student teams are invited to address packing efficiency, autonomous delivery, minimal/easy-open packaging, or any other topic they might discover during their research for the competition.

The top three teams will earn prizes including grant funds for their school’s PLTW program, Beats by Dre wireless headphones, and more! In addition, all participating teams will receive a letter of recognition for submitting their engineering design project to this competition.

This is the second annual competition founded by Chevron. As a company of engineers and scientists, Chevron supports the competition to encourage students to explore STEM through the engineering design process. These virtual competitions provide students with the opportunity to solve real-world problems.

In partnership with John Deere, we are excited to continue our support for the PLTW Engineering Design Competition. We hope students will explore, innovate, and create solutions that have the potential to one day be marketplace solutions for packaging and delivery.

Teams of high school PLTW students, grades 9-11, are eligible to enter the 2018 PLTW Engineering Design Competition. Registration is open now, and student teams are encouraged to register early. The final portfolio submission deadline is Jan. 19, 2018.
